"What? I don't understand." I folded my arms in frustration, though I knew everyone else felt just the same way. We were all lost as to how to decode Alice's vision. She said she has seen a man coming to meet them, and those were the words he said. Everyone sat or stood around her while she sat on the couch, still as statues just like always. Edward stood next to me and held me close, and I felt like I was on a rollercoaster. My stomach still turned from when Alice had added in the red eyes, and Edward's arm was the bar that would keep me from falling. The only missing piece was who he was talking to, which she didn't see. She could only tell he came from behind, and his eyes were the most clear thing about him, but why? And what did he mean? When would he be here?
I felt Edward's chest rumble, and I knew he didn't like the idea of any visitors when we were so close to the wedding. There wasn't much else we could do but wait, and I felt the uncontrollable urge to warn Jake. He had dissapeared a few months ago, but by heart I knew the exact number of days. That had been a real scare for me because of course I didn't want to lose him. No matter what, he was still Jacob and I was still Bella. I just wish he could understand that.
Even if he couldn't read my mind, he knew me well. Before I knew it, there was a cellphone to my ear and it was ringing. I took it from Edward and waited. When Jacob picked up, he sounded both cautious and angry.
"Hello?" When I heard his familiar husky voice, I eased a bit.
"Hey, Jake." I said softly, hoping the dial tone wouldn't sound.
There was a long pause, but no dial tone. When I finally heard his voice, he sounded surprised. "Bella?"
"Yeah, it's me." I tried to sound casual so this wouldn't be as painful as it should be.
Another pause. "What do you need?" He sounded exhausted now, and I remembered our last face-to-face meeting. My chest tightened, and I felt Edward's arms pull me close to hold me together.
"Well, I just wanted to warn you. I know it will probably have nothing to do with you and the werewolves, but there's a vampire that might be coming here. Alice didn't get a clear picture, but she said his eyes were enough to know he was a threat." I tried to get all of it in there in fear of the dial tone, again. Nothing.
"I see." That was all I heard for a long time before he finally spoke again. "Bella?"
"Yes?"
"Thanks."
I couldn't seperate the pain from the sincerity in those words, but as my fear came upon me I had no time to make sure. I hung up the phone and handed it back to Edward. Now we could only wait and live on.

It was rare to be alone these days, but I was at the moment. At least, in the house. Alice and Jasper roamed the area outside my home while the rest had gone for a quick hunt. I felt safe with them, though I worried sometimes when I pictured the petite Alice fighting. I knew she could, but I always had to shake the image from my mind. It was torcher enough having seen the fight between Victoria and Edward. It had been so unreal.
A noise made me jump slightly and I turned. Nothing. "Alice? Jasper?" My voice echoed through the empty house, and I shrugged it off. I wasn't about to let a single noise in this old house scare me. "It's nothing." I reassured myself, going to the sink to wash the rest of the dishes. When I looked up out the window, I saw the moon. It looked green, almost like a green fog was covering it. That was when my chest suddenly contracted and I couldn't breath. My hands shook as I looked at the reflection in the mirror, a man standing behind me. I watched in horror as his hand reached out and his icy touch stroked my cheek.
"There's no such thing as nothing." His breath was cold against the back of my neck as he leaned in, and then the next thing I knew I was on the ground. A dish shattered, but I was too stunned to get up. I risked a look at the intruder, but he was gone. I realized why his eyes had been the only thing seen, then. They almost glowed in their reflection against the glass, while the green distorted every other feature.
Alice was suddenly in the room, eyes wide and alert. "Are you alright?" Her voice was welcoming, much more so than the previous vampire.
I shook my head and she swiftly came to my side and helped me up and to a chair. When I finally found the words, I told her. "He was just here." I gasped.
"Who?" Her voice was calm, but she couldn't hide the horror already in her eyes.
We looked at each other a long moment, and I knew that she knew who was here. I had to say it, though, to comfirm it. "The man in your vision."
Everything went downhill from then on. As soon as the others knew, there was no leaving my side. Literally! They couldn't figure out how he had gotten through, and so they weren't about to leave me alone without me in their sights.
My thoughts always wander back to his eyes. They were intelligent, like he knew something I didn't. The memory always made me shiver, and Edward would always hold me when I did. What was it about this meeting that really scared me? It wasn't so much the fact that a vampire was right behind me; that happens a lot. There was something more to it, like I was missing something important. Was it something else I saw? Not just him? Was there more in that reflection that I missed? I tried to remember, but my mind was suddenly pushing the image further and further to my mind. I subconsciously did not want to go back.
What was it?
